Organisation
MD Hotel Investments B.V. (MDHI)
Company Profile
MDHI is one of the initiators of the fund and an experienced hotel
investment and hotel asset management company that originated from
the Amsterdam based Eden Hotelgroup. MDHI is led by its shareholders
Mr. L.D.H. Dijkstra and Mr. J. Mees. The Eden Hotelgroup is also
shareholder in MDHI. More information is available through www.mdhi.nl.
Mr. L.D.H. Dijkstra
Léon Dijkstra (1967) graduated in Business Administration at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. The subject of his final thesis for this degree was ‘Financial Valuation of Hotels’.
He built up experience in financing and investment analyses with
firms such as Real Estate Bank FGH and the hotel consultancy Horwath
Consulting. In the past few years he focused on the growth of the
Eden Hotelgroup, the family business of his parents. Four hotels
with the same criteria as the fund were acquired, a fifth is under
construction. These acquisitions and their turnarounds act as an
example of a successful execution of a strategy similar to that of
the fund. In the beginning of 2002 he initiated together with Mr.
Mees MDHI and the fund.
Mr. J. Mees
Joost Mees (1964) graduated in Law at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam.
During his study he started at MSR Consulting, an international consulting
firm focusing on Total Quality Management, Customer Satisfaction
Management and Business Process Redesign. Clients were listed companies,
especially banks and insurance companies. From 1998 he worked as
Senior Consultant for Aon Risk Consultants (ARC), the risk management
consulting firm of Aon Corporation. Aon is a listed company on the
Chicago and New York stock exchanges and one of the largest insurance
brokers in the world. He was responsible within ARC for the execution
of Enterprise Risk Management Studies and Due Diligences in merger
and acquisition projects for the larger international venture capital
and private equity companies and therefore has a vast experience
in advising on investment issues. Mr. Mees was also responsible for
executing risk management studies in the leisure industry. Early
2002 he initiated together with Mr. Dijkstra MDHI and the fund.
Responsibilities of MDHI in the fund management
Mr. Dijkstra and Mr. Mees and employees of MDHI will act as the front
office of the fund management and they are the primary contact for
prospects and the hotel management of the portfolio companies. MDHI
will take the lead in the assessment of investment opportunities
and the monitoring of results and developments in the portfolio companies.
The hotel management and investment experience at MDHI will be used
in the front-line of the investment and portfolio management activities.
